Montgomery County Libertarians Endorse Ernest Hancock for Libertarian National Committee Chair

Written on April 26th, 2010 by adminno shouts

April 21, 2010

Conshohocken, Pennsylvania

Montgomery County Libertarians Endorse Ernest Hancock for Libertarian National Committee Chair.

In a unanimous vote, the Montgomery County Libertarian Committee (MCLC) chose to endorse Ernest Hancock for Libertarian National Committee chair. The endorsement included an allocation of substantial funds for transportation costs for delegates supporting Hancock to attend the LP National Convention in Saint Louis.

Hancock’s pledge to provide “fearless advocacy of libertarian philosophy” resonates with MCLC members who are known for guerrilla activism and outreach.

“Ernie Hancock’s ability to bring vitality and cohesiveness to grassroots activism while communicating a clear Libertarian philosophy is exactly what the LP needs right now,” said Kat Valleley, Treasurer of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania.

“Ernie Hancock has proven himself as a libertarian activist. He has a natural talent for inspiring and enabling creative activism” said committee member James Babb “He’s got guts. He’s creative and communicates well, but most importantly, we can trust him to defend libertarian principles.”

MCLC Chairman, Steve Scheetz added, “We need to work towards undoing the damage that the Bob Barr presidential campaign has done to the LP’s image. Putting principled libertarians into leadership roles is essential, if we are going to get the LP back on track. Ernie has the experience to do just that. His track record speaks for itself.”

RALLY TO BE HELD IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPERTY RIGHTS OF AN AILING 80-YEAR-OLD WIDOW

Written on October 13th, 2009 by admin2 shouts

The Abington Township Commissioners have begun unjustified legal proceedings to seize the property of Elizabeth Patane, an ailing 80-year-old widow who has made it clear she will fight the taking to the last inch. A rally in support of Mrs. Patane’s property rights will be held rain or shine on Saturday, October 17, 2009, featuring a march on the Abington Township building (but please no torches or pitchforks!).

Supporters will begin gathering at noon on Saturday in the parking lot of Mrs. Patane property, 1180 Easton Road, Roslyn Penna, 19001 (www.tinyurl.com/TheStolenProperty). The rally will be called to order at 1 PM, and at 1:15 will begin a march on the township building, making two twenty-minute stops along the way. The first will be at the home of Commissioner Lori Schreiber who first proposed the taking, and the second at the home of Commissioner John Carlin who voted in favor of it. The route will follow sidewalks through residential neighborhoods all the way, so it should be alright to bring the kids and strollers along.

By 3 PM the rally is expected to arrive at the Abington Township building, 1176 Old York Road, Abington Penna. 19001. Numerous dignitaries will be on hand to address the citizens, including Dick and Nancy Saha of Coatesville, who successfully fought back efforts by that town to seize their family farm. Also speaking are Pat Sellers of Chester County, a veteran of the Saha victory, and Ken Krawchuk, former Libertarian candidate for Pennsylvania Governor and a long-time Abington activist. In addition to members of the Patane family, every Abington Township Commissioner has also been invited to briefly address the rally (although none have yet accepted). Ceremonies are expected to conclude around 4 PM.

In addition to the big march on the township building, there will be two roving rallies, one before the march and one afterwards. The morning rally begins at 10 AM in Roychester Park, and will pay visits to the homes of three other commissioners who voted in favor of taking Mrs. Patane’s property: James Ring, Les Benzak, and board president Carol DiJoseph. The afternoon rally begins at 4:30 PM to visit the final three: Michael O’Connor, Steven Kline, and Ernie Peacock. A detailed itinerary can be found at www.tinyurl.com/RallyForPropertyRights, but is subject to change. Commissioners have until midnight Thursday to recant their vote in order to be dropped from the rally’s agenda.

According to Jim Babb, a long-time Libertarian activist and Montco’s representative on the state Libertarian Party’s board of directors, “We want to send a clear message to any politician thinking about stealing property for their special interest project: It’s a career ending move. The citizens will not sit idly by and let a neighbor’s property and livelihood be attacked.”

Ken Krawchuk, co-organizer of the rally, agreed. “The message here is a simple one: the Abington Commissioners voted to confiscate an old lady’s property, and that’s just plain wrong. Even if they had a single good reason — which they haven’t — you don’t abuse the power of government to beat up on honest, law-abiding citizens.”

According to official minutes posted at www.Abington.org, the Abington Commissioners voted in February to use eminent domain to seize Mrs. Patane’s storefront property for use as a neighborhood library, even though the main township library is approximately one mile away and no other Abington neighborhood has its own library. Further, there was another building already for sale across the street from Mrs. Patane’s property which could have been purchased instead, and without litigation. Township officials have admitted that Mrs. Patane’s taxes were current and that there were no code violations or safety concerns. Still, Commissioner Peacock is on record saying, “Taking it is the right thing to do.” Initial outlays for the Patane property are anticipated to be almost $2 million (not counting litigation), but the Abington Commissioners have stated on the record that they cannot say what the final cost might be, and that there is no fixed dollar amount or cost estimate for the project, nor any guarantee of success. The last high-profile taking in Abington ended up costing almost three times the property’s value due to costs of litigation, and Coatesville squandered $7 million attempting to seize the Saha farm before finally admitted defeat.

July 4th Celebration

Written on July 2nd, 2009 by adminno shouts

How does one really intimate just how awesome an experience it is when when he/she is in the presence of people who believe the same cause as he/she does and those people are also willing to Pledge their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor ?

Tonight, I had the pleasure of spending time with the Libertarians of Montgomery County.  As the Chairman of the committee, I have had the distinct honor of introducing some amazing speakers, and some really great people, but tonight, I introduced speaker Michael Badnarik, former presidential nominee for the Libertarian Party, and as usual, he did not disappoint!

Speaking at our meeting, he brought up the Continental Congress.  Basically this is a group of delegates from the 50 states who will sit and judge the current Congress, and decide whether or not they are acting in the best interest of the nation, the Constitution, and the people of the United States.  From my perspective, I do not believe that these people, we have elected, are acting in our best interest.  I plan on challenging an incumbent Senator to make this particular statement.

Following the meeting, we had the largest group of attendees join us for our post meeting, meeting at the local tavern.  Michael was there, and we discussed, those same topics on a deeper level of detailThe conclusion was that we all must realize that there is something that needs to be done, and we ALL have a responsibility to see that it IS done……

Michael has done, what our founders did  in signing the Declaration of Independence.  He pledged his Live, His Fortune, and His Sacred Honor, to see that this nation is brought to a place where everyone has the liberty he/she deserves as recognized as being self evident.

July 4th, he will be speaking in Philadelphia, The Birthplace of the Constitution, and he will be demonstrating how far away from what the founders intended we happen to be.

Come out and join us!  If you believe, as I do, that we are a nation for the people, BY the people, come out and join us!!

4/20 Police say “LEGALIZE DRUGS!!”

Written on April 20th, 2009 by adminno shouts

Find out why on April 20th, 7:00 pm

Philadelphia Inquirer Building, West Conshohocken

Join former Maryland State Police Maj. Stanford “Neill” Franklin
of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (www.leap.cc)
for a frank discussion about the failed “war on drugs.”

“It pains me to know that there is a solution for preventing tragedy and nothing is being one because of ignorance, stubbornness, unsubstantiated fear and greed.” eill Franklin, a 32-year law enforcement veteran, retired from the Maryland State Police n 1999. During his time on the force he held the position of commander for the Education nd Training Division and the Bureau of Drug and Criminal Enforcement. Major
Franklin instituted and oversaw the very first Domestic Violence Investigative Units for he Maryland State Police. After 23 years of dedicated service to the Maryland State olice, he was recruited in 2000 by the Commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department o reconstruct and command Baltimore’s Education and Training Section.

Like so many young police officers he never questioned the law, the policy or even the rders or direction from superiors. He was a soldier who took the orders and applied them to he letter of the law. He was proud of his work, taking druggies off the street and of the hundreds of arrests he made. Hearing Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke speak to this failed “war on drugs” policy caused him to give the “war on drugs” another look. Once he took the time to check the statistics, to notice the demographics, to see the disparity between aws and those in prison, to notice the homicide rate and why it was so high, he knew something was just not right.

Neill is motivated by the high number of civilian lives lost, and the many police officers who give their lives in this unnecessary war.

LEAP (www.leap.cc) is made up of over 10,000 current and former members of the law enforcement and criminal justice ommunities who are speaking out about the failures of our existing drug policies. Those policies have failed, and ontinue to fail, to effectively address the problems of drug abuse, especially the problems of juvenile drug use, the problems of addiction, and the problems of crime caused by the existence of a criminal black market in drugs.

Doors open at 7:00 pm. The presentation begins at 7:30. Beverages at a nearby pub will follow.

Candidate Workshop

Written on February 23rd, 2009 by adminno shouts

We had a productive day with our Candidate Workshop, I am excited to be part of our organization!  More to follow on the workshop, but here was the original ad for the workshop.

Do you pay attention to government activity? Are you unhappy with the status quo? Would you like to make a difference protecting your community from the government? Would you like to see the Libertarian message on TV, newspaper and radio? Would you like to nail the incumbent in a public debate?

We are seeking Libertarian candidates and campaign volunteers for 2009 and 2010 races. You can help us win local races this year and prepare for high profile races next year. Whether your interests are local, statewide or national, we need dedicated Libertarians at all levels.

Our candidates are the heart and soul of the Libertarian Party. Libertarian campaigns are our chance to go on the offensive. You can make a difference without quitting your job or spending a fortune. It’s easier than most people think.

Are you qualified? If you have read the constitution and love freedom, then you are more qualified than virtually any old party candidate.

To explain the candidate process, the Montgomery County Libertarian Committee is hosting a free workshop on March 7th. Elected Libertarians and experienced candidates will be on hand to answer questions. All potential candidates and campaign volunteers are welcome.
