LANGHORNE, PA – “We are on the ballot!” exclaimed Ken Krawchuk, Libertarian Party candidate for Pennsylvania Governor, addressing a crowd of volunteers at a ballot access working party on Friday. “I just received word from the Pennsylvania Department of State, and they have accepted the paperwork submitted by my running mate Kathy Smith and me. That means we are ON the November ballot! Pennsylvania voters will be able to choose a Libertarian alternative this year.”
On Friday, the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania submitted thousands of signatures to get their statewide and local candidates on the November ballot, including gubernatorial candidate Ken Krawchuk of Abington and lieutenant governor candidate Kathy Smith of Canonsburg. “I’m not exactly sure how many signatures Kathy and I submitted,” Krawchuk confessed. “I lost count somewhere around 12,000, and they’re still coming in. Thousands more are coming in, I hear, and the deadline isn’t until next Wednesday! We’re way past 200% of the required minimum, so it’s guaranteed the two old parties can’t challenge our right to be on the ballot like they’ve been doing repeatedly since 2004.” Krawchuk is now the first third-party or independent candidate for governor to appear on the ballot since 2002 to achieve ballot status in Pennsylvania. “Sixteen years is a long time,” Krawchuk noted. “But now I’m back. So be sure to drop by and visit our big “coming out” rally in Harrisburg on Saturday, August 11. Details will be on the campaign website at http://KenK4Pa.com and on Facebook.”
Krawchuk, 65, is an Information Technology entrepreneur from Abington, Pa. He has appeared on the gubernatorial ballot twice before, facing Democrat Ed Rendell in 2002 and Republican Tom Ridge in 1998. Smith is a retired retail merchant from Canonsburg, Pa, and has served two terms on her local school board, one of them as board president.
Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the state and the nation, with over 150 elected and appointed officials currently serving in office nationwide, and 40 in Pennsylvania. Libertarians are fiscally conservative and socially liberal, and like the Founding Fathers, Libertarians believe that you have the inalienable right to conduct your life as you see fit, without interference, so long as you respect the rights and property of others.
