Libertarian Candidate Marc Bozzacco Talking Taxes and Mass Incarceration with Ken Krawchuk
Abington residents, Marc Bozzacco, the Libertarian Candidate for State Representative 153rd District and past Gubernatorial Libertarian Candidate, Ken Krawchuk, sat down on Saturday to talk about Marc’s campaign and to answer questions about his reasons for running.
Marc began the discussion with his main reason for running. “Taxes," he declared. Taxes are "the root of all evil in this state. They literally tax everything and they are looking for everyway to squeeze an extra tax in there.”
Elaborating, Marc continued, “The 25% corporate tax has got to go. I’m a believer in no corporate tax, let alone 25%. Why would anybody want tun a business in this state? That’s a tax I want to get rid of. I mean, I want to get rid of all of them eventually but we have to start somewhere.”
However, for Marc, the state's onerous taxation was just the beginning, calling for less government "control over our lives." He then went on to describe Pennsylvania's penal system as "crazy."
“Did you know that there is almost 400,000 people tied up in our penal system? 55% of those people are non-violent, victimless offenders.”
Then during the interview Marc got animated, “But do you know what the really stupid thing is? And this is insane. We have for-profit prisons. How the hell can a prison be for profit! When you are a corporation, your goal is to maximize profit." In a for-profit system, according to Marc, more prisoners generate more profit. "No, we are not having more prisoners. We need to cut our prison population in half.”
Bozzacco, 43, grew up in Cheltenham, and has been an Abington resident almost 20 years. He and his wife Eva currently reside in Glenside along with their Bernese mountain dog, Daisy. Professionally, he’s a union steamfitter in Local 420, executive producer for The Pennsylvania Project talk radio show on WWDB in Philadelphia, and is an eagle scout. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, hiking, camping, and getting back to nature.
When elected, Bozzacco would become the first Libertarian in the Pennsylvania state house and the first elected State Representative not belonging to either the Republican or Democrat party in over 85 years. He pledges to be an independent voice for the people, bringing long-overdue transparency and integrity to the office and to Harrisburg.
Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the state and the nation, with over 230 elected and appointed officials currently serving in office nationwide, 60 in Pennsylvania and 4 in Montgomery County. Libertarians are fiscally conservative and socially liberal, and like the Founding Fathers, Libertarians believe that you have the inalienable right to conduct your life as you see fit, without interference, so long as you respect the rights and property of others.
